Last year MVF’s dedicated People Team launched a second internal, bespoke management development initiative. The programme was designed for those MVFers considering a role in people management or taking that first step up into a role with people management responsibilities. The programme wasn’t a replacement for our Management Development Academy (MDA), but more of a pre-cursor to it. You can find out more about MDA here.
The Mate to Manager programme runs across four months and covers the fundamental skills that people managers at MVF need to succeed. We talk about what being a manager at MVF means and how they’re shaping up against our leadership traits. It’s also an opportunity for MVFers to consider and reflect on the type of manager they want to be, as well as providing tools to help them get there faster.
In January 2020 The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) endorsed Mate to Manager as an accredited development programme for delivery in London, Austin – Texas and Singapore. This means that those who successfully complete the programme will achieve an endorsed certificate that is recognised beyond MVF. Our Learning and Development Partner James Adams said: “The programme has been a great success so far with MVFers learning more about people management and what would be expected of them as people managers from the very first session. It’s helping them to make better decisions about how they work currently and their longer term career goals”.
The programme was developed as a result of an MVF wide development needs assessment, led by the People Team, and in collaboration with an internal focus group. The focus group was made up of a cross section of MVFers, including those recently promoted to management roles, to gain insight to the areas where they felt immediate support and development was needed.
MVF has a great history with Fizz Pop Bang as an external partner having worked with them to co-design MDA. After designing and piloting the Mate to Manager programme in partnership with Fizz Pop Bang the People Team transitioned the programme fully in-house, with experienced MVFers becoming the facillitators following programme training being provided to them. It’s another great example of a development initiative designed and delivered by MVFers for MVFers that continues to support our aim of building world class teams across all our offices.
