Supporting Starlight Children’s Foundation

You may have been wondering why the office seemed a little quieter than usual last Thursday… That’ll be because the MVF exec team including Michael T, Ange, Jules, Dan T, Andrew H along with myself and Jake Archer used their MVF Charity day to show their support to the Starlight Children’s Foundation at their Summer fete in Finchley Central.

Some MVFers will remember that at Christmas last year we donated the money set aside for client gifts to Starlight, contributing to the fantastic work they do to brighten the lives of seriously ill children.
They provide in-hospital entertainment to children receiving treatment and also grant tailor made wishes for children suffering life threatening or shortening illnesses. This can be anything from a holiday of a lifetime at Disneyland to a sleepover at Hamleys, Britain’s biggest toy store.

It was a truly moving experience to volunteer at their summer fete, meeting the children and their families, creating wonderful memories with them. We entertained over 475 children and their families with arts and crafts, bouncy castles, treasure hunts, crazy golf, pony rides and a LOT of water fights, culminating in the infamous tug of war – as we were told in the briefing that morning, the kids ALWAYS win, and win they did! It certainly put a lot of things into perspective and was humbling to see how much work goes into running an incredible event like this by the Starlight team.

Michelle from Starlight said:

“The MVF volunteers pulled out all the stops to ensure that our guests enjoyed a very special day in the countryside. We thoroughly enjoyed working with the team and there are so many contributions that everyone makes to create a special day like this, every single bit is really appreciated.

As I spoke to some parents as they were leaving yesterday, I was reminded of how incredibly grateful so many families are for this type of opportunity and how much the day had meant to them. I hope everyone can feel proud today of the positive difference they have made to those families.”

The charity are currently looking for more volunteers for their next event on August 7th in Popham near Winchester, details and sign up form can be found below – please don’t forget to get your line manager’s permission if you want to sign up! The journey is just over one hour from Waterloo Station and I can attest it’s an amazing way to spend the day!
